A Future By Design Blog Type 2 Diabetes: The Disease Process Why Hasn’t My Doctor Told Me my Type 2 Diabetes Is Reversible?

Well, the short answer is because the American Diabetes Association (ADA) declares that Type 2 Diabetes is a “chronic, progressive disease.”

However, there is plenty of evidence that this is false. We have observed for many years now that bariatric surgery (e.g., gastric bypass and gastric sleeve) can normalize blood sugars within weeks even before significant weight loss is realized.

And more evidence is piling up in the medical literature that demonstrates that through dietary intervention, people with Type 2 Diabetes completely eliminate their medications for diabetes and achieve normal A1cs and fasting blood sugars.

So let me ask you what you think:

If you do not require medications to control your blood sugars and have a normal A1c and a normal fasting blood sugar, would you say that you still have Type 2 Diabetes?

Is it much different from, say, breast cancer? If you receive treatment for breast cancer and 5 years later no longer have any signs or symptoms of breast cancer, do we say you still have breast cancer? No, we say you are cured of breast cancer.

Most Americans, including doctors, are unaware that this is even a controversial topic. They simply accept the national authority’s dogma, because, why in the world would they mislead the public?

There are probably multiple reasons, but the one that I want to discuss for our purposes is this: The ADA doesn’t believe you are capable of sustaining the intensive dietary changes that are required to completely reverse Type 2 Diabetes.

The kinds of practices that have been scientifically tested to get this result involve low carbohydrate diets and intermittent or extended fasting.

Is this different from the standard American diet? Yes. Does it require significant changes to how most Americans eat? Yes. Does that mean it isn’t possible and we shouldn’t offer it as a potential cure? NO!

And HOW DARE anyone make that decision for you.

Can you imagine if we told people with CANCER: “Hey, listen, radiation is really a pain and chemotherapy is brutal, so maybe we should just figure out this hospice thing.”

Type 2 Diabetes kills people! Slowly, but still. It is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. It is a serious diagnosis, and more and more Americans are being diagnosed to the tune of 50% of adult Americans CURRENTLY have Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.

Consider that in 1958, less than 1% of our population carried a diagnosis of diabetes.

If your doctor isn’t aware of this or doesn’t believe that you are capable of making the dietary changes to reverse your Type 2 Diabetes, you aren’t even offered the option.

I want you to have this choice. To make this choice for yourself.

I will teach you how to do it. I will help you take back control of your health and your future.
